Present on the Trail (SOL Day 31)

Hiking brings me into the present moment, effortlessly.

Unlike taking a walk, where I can easily lose myself in the conversation, hiking keeps me viscerally present. Every step is taken with care, dodging a rock or choosing the best footing. I am aware of every feeling that arises: tightness in my ankle, discomfort from the heat, a slight tinge of hunger, sweat trickling down my forearm. Even if I am dense in conversation, a part of me remains fully in each moment, checking in on sensations and needs. I also find it easy to become immersed in the beauty of nature, a feeling that reminds me of coming home.

I love these experiences I find within hiking. Where do you find them?
